It's nearly that time of the year again

Well it's November 30th today and what a busy year it has been. We have been lucky enough to be involved in so many interesting projects for our clients I thought I better get out one more newsletter before it all gets too old. If there is any project we can help you with please don't hesitate to call.

Your Licence Is Your Life - Indigenous drink driving & licensing kit

ORS Indigenous Driving Kit

The brief
Design and produce an education kit to help indigenous people get and keep their licenses and to reduce drink driving.
The kit contains a board game, streetscape mat, a DVD written and produced by Mary G, an interactive CD to practice the driving test, an information booklet, discussion cards and a poster. It’s being distributed throughout rural WA to schools, community services, health centres, and police.

The process
We started by working with ORS and the Indigenous writers to come up with a theme and then designed concepts for the colour palette, typography and look and feel of the kit.
We researched materials and commissioned illustrations – keeping in mind the need for the kit to be informal and fun while still conveying that driving is a serious and also be suitable for people with low literacy (so contain strong visual images).
We coordinated multiple suppliers to source materials that would fit together in a custom-made box, be durable for rural use and, of course, be the most cost-effective solution.

The result
We are very proud of the kit and ORS is delighted. This was such a complex project that took 10 months to complete. It showcases our ability to design in a creative, fun style, to problem-solve and be flexible and to produce a highly unique, fit for purpose solution. We look forward to the roll-out.

Bird in the Word

Corporate brandi mark for Dinglebird Environmental

One of our recent branding projects was for an environmental consultancy with a very interesting name - Dinglebird Environmental.  The name comes from the surnames of the founding partners Peter Dingle and John Bird. The company came to us to revamp their branding, develop a new corporate identity and build a new web site. We had fun with this design project and were pleased that the people at Dinglebird weren't afraid to choose something different from the brand mark options we designed.   We really like the visual pun that the Dinglebird brand mark presents. Have you found it yet?

It's Festival Time!

Fremantle Festival 2011 posters and advertising

The 2011 Festival of Fremantle is underway. Did you know that this is the 106th year the event has been held, making it the oldest festival in Australia?. Tangelo was asked to design all of the marketing material for the main festival and the sub-festivals including the Wardanji Festival, Children’s Fiesta and Norfolk Lanes. This year's poster was based on a painting by local artist “Twenty-Eleven” - it challenged both the festival events team and the designers. After a lot of searching by Laura & Yvonne we found the right typeface which was bold and chunky like the painting and really complemented it. We designed all of the marketing material including posters, programs, banners, certificates and press advertising. The Festival material has been very well received.
Well done Laura and Yvonne.

Annual report season 2011

Annual Reports designed and produced by Tangelo

The tangelo’s have been a very busy team throughout October working on a number of annual reports for our publicly listed clients. These ranged from marine and resource based companies through to aerospace. The team did a fantastic job and juggled a number of issues to meet some very tight deadlines.

MYR rebrands for growth

MYR branding

Recently we worked with one of our long term clients to develop a new brand mark and corporate identity.  MYR risk management consultancy has been a client of Tangelo since 2000, in that time we developed their original corporate identity and updated it 7 years ago. MYR is expanding and setting up an office in London and to increase its presence in Hong Kong. As part of this process it was decided that it was time to re-brand the company and to project a more corporate image. The new brand has been well received and we will be working with MYR to roll out the new corporate identity over the next couple of months.

New vision for Fremantle CBD

City of Fremantle city centre planning amendments

Those of you who live down this way or spend time in the port city will have noticed a number of changes afoot, one of the biggest is the proposed revamp of the City Centre District. Tangelo has been busy working with the City of Fremantle’s Strategic Planning unit developing the planning amendment documents and visual display material for the community consultation. With this project (as well as the earlier East End Renewal and light rail corridor) we have tried to maintain a neutral style by using vector graphics and silhouettes. This approach works well for conceptual development as it gives an impression of what the proposed changes are without locking in people’s thinking with “artist’s impressions”.

Brand roll out

Mine RP brand mark and conference material

Another recent project for us was the re-brand of a South African based mining software company Mine RP. Tangelo was initially engaged to produce concepts to demonstrate what could be done to build a distinctive brand for the company. These concepts were quickly taken up by the management team and we were asked “Could we roll out the new brand in time for their annual conference in Cape Town - in two weeks time?” “Not all of it” we said. In the end it was agreed that we would deliver enough for a “soft launch” - which included a full corporate logo suite, business cards for all delegates, a presentation folder, a suite of brochures, powerpoint templates and a suite of brand mark animations.  The new brand was very well received by conference delegates and we are now working with Mine RP’s marketing people in South Africa to roll out the next stage of the new brand to their regional offices in Canada, Chile, Turkey and Australia. Special thanks to Rob Brickhill of Minuteman Press in Cape Town who handled all of the conference printing.

Orefind - we find ore

Another recent branding project was for Orefind. Orefind is geological consultancy that specialises in the discipline of structural geology. Tangelo worked with the Orefind partners to develop the brand mark and demonstrate how the brand could be applied across their touch points including web, software icons and printed marketing material. Tangelo will be working with Orefind in the new year to roll out the brand and corporate identity.

Smart phone compatable

You might have noticed the slightly different layout to our newsletter this issue, we have built a new template to make it smart phone compatible. This means you can now read our newsletter comfortably on your smart phone (I-phone, Android etc.) The statistics say that 40% of people now check their emails exclusively on their mobile phone. This means that we need to build our communications to suit this medium as it is rapidly growing. If you're interested in creating a smart phone friendly digital newsletter or web site please give me a call or drop me an email.
